TechWreck keeps as little as it can: no accounts, no email addresses, no analytics scripts, trackers or ads, no requests to other companies' servers, and no cookies except the one form-protection cookie described below.

What is stored

  • Your desk and reports: the desk name and everything you type into a report, with the times they were created and changed. The database does not hold the desk's private link, only a one-way fingerprint of it, so a stolen database would not reveal working links. The link does appear in the server's logs (next item).
  • Server logs and statistics: the web server records every page requested (address, time, page, browser), including desk links, in the hosting account's access logs. The hosting control panel archives these logs until the end of the following month and builds traffic statistics from them (AWStats, Webalizer and Analog) that list the pages requested, so desk links can appear there too. If a page fails with a server error, the site's error log records that page, desk link included, for up to 30 days. Only WeldonPC.com can see these logs and statistics; no outside company receives them.
  • Pasted logs: only the lines that become timeline entries are kept, as part of the report. The pasted text itself is not stored.
  • Rate limits: to stop abuse, the site counts new desks and saves per connection. Addresses are kept only as salted fingerprints and deleted after three days.
  • Forms: pages with a form (opening a desk, the desk and the report editor) set one cookie that protects the forms against cross-site requests. It holds no personal information and ends when you close the browser. Pages without a form, like the home page, set no cookie.

How long

Deleting a desk or a report removes it from the live site at once. Copies can remain in the site's nightly database backups for up to 14 days, in the backups taken at software updates (the last ten) until they are replaced, and in the hosting server's own account backups for about four weeks. A desk nobody opens for 18 months is deleted with its reports.

Who can see it

Anyone with your desk link can read and change its reports, so share it with care. A printed or saved PDF report can carry the link in its page footer: see the note by the print button. No staff read reports in normal running; WeldonPC.com can reach the database, the server logs and the backups only to keep the service working.

Payments

When payments open, PayPal handles them. TechWreck will store only PayPal's subscription reference, the plan and its renewal date, never card or bank details.
